22.06.23 - Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Resilience: Assessing Risks with LiDAR and Digital Twin Technologies

Did you know that 40% of the world's population lives less than 100 km from a coastline, and that 10% of people live in coastal areas less than 10 m above sea level? As a result, sea-level rise is one of the most serious consequences of climate change. The development of coastal resilience strategies is therefore necessary to understand the complex risks associated with sea-level rise.

Fugro company specializes in two complementary technologies that now appear to provide effective tools for risk assessment: LiDAR (both bathymetric and topographic) and spatial digital twins.

The creation of digital twins involves the acquisition of highly accurate LiDAR data, which is then combined with various other geographic data sources. This enables a detailed understanding of the physical characteristics of coastal environments.

In addition, LiDAR can be used to create hydrological models that enhance our understanding of these processes.
